Opening: Network Administrator
JMB is seeking a Network Administrator with a combination of business, technical, and inter-
personal skills to run our Local Area Network. The network is growing rapidly and expanding
into a Wide Area Network, so the possibilities and challenges are outstanding.
The Network Administrator is responsible for the daily operation of the network as well as stra-
tegic planning. The administrator also works closely with development teams, the database ad-
ministrator, and the PC installation and support groups. This is a hands-on position, ideal for an
autonomous individual who is excited by technology and understands its application in a busi-
ness environment.
The primary network operating system is Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server. Candidates
must have experience with Microsoft Lan Manager and Novell Netware 3.11, TCP/IP and cli-
ent/server application environments.

Job Summary:
Administer the Local Area Network
Job Duties:
1. Develop procedures for network administration, including maintenance, backup, etc.
2. Install and maintain network operating systems on servers
3. Maintain and monitor network security
4. Maintain network operating systems on workstations
5. Maintain network configuration documentation
6. Install and maintain network hardware
7. Support network remote access
8. Create network offerings
9. Administer electronic mail system
10. Monitor and report on usage of network resources
11. When requested by hotline, work with users to solve network problems
12. Participate in developement teams that require network resources
13. Determine needs and develop plans for future network hardware and software
14. Train operations and PC repair staff to perform day-to-day network tasks
Accountabilities:
1. Maintain and test backups to be able to restore to acceptable standards
2. Network resources are available to users at all times except during scheduled maintenance periods
3. Network procedures, procedure manual(s), and documentation are current
4. All known network problems are documented and reported to supervisor
Job Specifications:
1. Extensive experience with Microsoft Lan Manager and Windows NT Advanced
Server.
2. Experience with Novell Netware 3.11
3. Experience installing network hardware in workstations and servers
4. Able to document and explain configurations, installations, etc.
5. Experience with TCP/IP.
6. Must be able to follow written and spoken instructions and procedures
7. Must be able to communicate with supervisors and vendors both orally and in writ-
ing.
